Baxter, MN

Located in Crow Wing County, the city of Baxter is situated adjacent to Brainerd. Because of its location, Baxter is often correlated with its neighbor and known collectively as the Brainerd Lakes Area. The city is a lovely mosaic of landscapes, with numerous ponds and lakes (big and small) scattered throughout the city, which has a total area of almost 21 square miles.

Incorporated in 1939, Baxter got its name from Luther Baxter, who was a lawyer and worked at the Northern Pacific Railroad. He later went on to serve in the Minnesota Legislature. Back then, Baxter was largely an agricultural community. Today, the city is an economic hub for the area.

Baxter has acres of undeveloped land, making the city especially attractive to investors who want to tap into the city’s potential. It helps that two major arteries (State Highways 210 and 371) pass through the city. Baxter is considered one of the fastest growing cities in the area. To date, it currently has a total year-round population of a little over 8,100 residents. The city is served by Brainerd Public Schools.
